Ending the section 66 homelessness prevention duty - because the applicant refused suitable accommodation that's likely to be available for 6 months

This template letter enables you to notify a homeless applicant that the prevention duty has ended, because:

  • s/he has refused suitable accommodation that was likely to be available for six months.

Ending the duty on this basis can apply whether the applicant:

  • is to remain in their existing accommodation, or
  • has obtained alternative housing.

To end the duty on this basis you must be satisfied that:

  • the applicant is no longer threatened with homelessness
  • the accommodation is suitable, and
  • the accommodation is likely to be available for the applicant and their household to occupy for at least six months from the date the end of duty notice is sent or first made available for collection (HWA, s.67(3)).

This template helps you to ensure to comply with the notification requirements, including those set out in section 84 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.
