Offer of private rented accommodation to end the section 66 homelessness prevention duty

This template enables you to offer private rented accommodation when you also want to end the section 66 homelessness prevention duty.

This letter:

  • assumes the property is ready to let;
  • has spaces for including details about the property and the tenancy, e.g. the rent, the identity of landlord, tenancy start date;
  • gives the applicant a deadline by which they must contact you;
  • explains the likely consequences - for the homelessness duty - if the applicant accepts or refuses the offer of tenancy;
  • briefly sets out the matters the council has taken into account when deciding the accommodation is suitable for the applicant;
  • informs the applicant of their statutory right to request a review.
