Join Landmark Chambers' Justin Bates KC and Crash Wigley and myself, as we take you through the key proposals and discuss their implications.
Housing law is devolved in Wales. However, thus far, the Senedd has not departed significantly from the position in England when it comes to homelessness or the allocation of social housing.
Part 2 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 (homelessness) broadly mirrors Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996, whilst Part 6 of the 1996 Act (allocations) continues to apply in Wales.
This similarity is set to change as a result of the Homelessness and Social Housing Allocations (Wales) Bill. The Bill marks a radical break with the previous position on homelessness. It will remove the priority need test and end the concept of becoming homeless intentionally. There are also significant changes to allocations law. Crash Wigley is providing evidence about the Bill to the Senedd Cymru.
